Launch of Public Data Idea-Sharing Platform Service

Responding to Gov't 3.0 Policies



KOMIPO began the operation of 'Public Data Idea-Sharing Platform Service' in November this year to actively respond to Government 3.0 polices and support the activation of private utilization of public data.


As a full-time suggestion channel for realization of demand-centric customized public data, the service is a venue for KOMIPO employees and external customers to share public data utilization ideas.


KOMIPO now is receiving ideas from its employees and external customers at all times as well as suggestions from the general public regarding ways to utilize 25 categories of pubic data, including KOMIPO's tender information presently available externally and information on its cooperating companies.


Through KOMIPO's official homepage (http://open.komipo.co.kr:9100/idea/ideaList.do), external parties can register various business startup ideas utilizingpublic data or ways of utilizing industry data anytime in free form. KOMIPO plans to examine the suggestions and present awards for excellent ideas that are adopted.


To expand its service further to the general public, KOMIPO, in collaboration with Korea Electric Power Corp.(KEPCO), has completed the opening of tender information from 11 KEPCO subsidiary power companies.


In November this year, KOMIPO acquired 4.44 points (full mark: 5 points) in the informationization maturity measurement supervised by the Ministry of Interior and received the highest grade in informationization promotion capability among 122 public organizations. Based on its advanced informationization management system, KOMIPO is promoting Government 3.0 values - Openness, Sharing, Communication and Cooperation - more actively.


Lee Young-Jo, head of KOMIPO Security & Information Strategy Department, expressed his intentions saying, "KOMIPO will provide its full support and efforts for contributions to the national economy through the opening of high-quality public data, while actively responding to Government 3.0 policies."

Jeju Sangmyung Wind Power & ESS Dedicated

KOMIPO’'s Self-Developed 1st Wind Farm



On December 15, KOMIPO held a comprehensive dedication ceremony for the Sangmyung Wind Power Plant and the Wind Power-Linked-Type Energy Storage System (ESS) at Geumak-ri, Hanrim-eup, with related officials of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, regional citizens and KOMIPO executives & employees participating.


The Sangmyung Wind Power Plant features a facility capacity of 21MW (3MW x 7 units) combined with a 6MWhscale ESS at a total project cost of about 57.6 billion. These facilities are expected to contribute significantly to the expansion of the domestic wind power generation market by enhancing the utilization rate of wind resources through linkage of a domestically-produced 3MW wind power generator supplied by Doosan Heavy Industries to an ESS.


The Sangmyung Wind Power Plant is the first wind farm self-developed by KOMIPO. It began commercial operation after about seven years of efforts with the basic plan established in 2009. The plant obtained generation business approval in May 2013 after receiving the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province's landscape examination and designation as a wind farm district, and began commercial operation in August 2016, 16 months after commencement of construction.


President & CEO Chung Chang-Kil revealed, “"Based on its experience in the completion of the Sangmyung Wind Power Plant, KOMIPO will expand diverse new &renewable energy generation facilities, offshore wind farms, PV power and fuel cells, etc.. on Jeju Island in the future and respond proactively to climate change.”" With realization of a new & renewable energy cluster, including a rooftop PV power plant for Jeju National University and a PV power plant within its Jeju Thermal Power Plant complex in Jeju Province, meanwhile, KOMIPO is vigorously boosting Jeju regional society development and helping to carry out the province's new energy industry activation policies.

KOMIPO Picked as Most Excellent Integrity Organization

KOMIPO received 'Grade 1' in the '2016 Integrity Measurement Survey of Public Sector Organizations' supervised and announced by the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) on December 7 and was named the Most Excellent Integrity Organization.


ACRC comprehensively assessed the integrity efforts undertaken from July last year to June this year and subsequent integrity levels of a total of 606 organizations, including central administrative agencies, local autonomous bodies, boards of education, and public officialdom-related organizations.


KOMIPO was not only selected as the Most Excellent Organization in the ACRC-supervised assessment of anticorruption policies for the second consecutive year but also selected as the Most Excellent Integrity Organization for the first time since its founding, meaning that it has become a high-integrity public enterprise taking the lead in creating an 'Integrity Ecosystem.'


President & CEO Chung Chang-Kil always emphasizes that 'Safety is the Life of Humans, Quality is the Life of Facilities and Integrity is the Life of an Organization.' Regarding the integrity assessment result, he said: "I believe that it is the fruit of the collective efforts of KOMIPO executives and employees for the practice of integrity, including observation of the Improper Solicitation & Graft Act. KOMIPO will continue to be a public enterprise leading the integrity culture of officialdom in the future."


The integrity levels of public organizations are reported after integrating the questionnaire survey results of experienced officials, employees, experts, etc. and subtracting points for the occurrence of corruption.

Eliminating Industrial Accidents With Cooperating Cos.

At the grand auditorium of its Boryeong Thermal Power Site Division on December 5, KOMIIPO held the 'Oath Ceremony to Implement the Right to Reject Dangerous Work & Presentation Session of Excellent Risk Assessment Practices' to root out the causes of industrial accidents. The event provided a venue to resolve for the elimination of safety accidents with about 300 participants, including KOMIPO's management group, CEOs of cooperating companies, heads of KOMIPO business site divisions and employees.




The 'Right to Reject Dangerous Work' was introduced for the first time by KOMIPO under a system specifying that, when judging certain work to be dangerous, workers can stop the work, request elimination of risk factors and resume the work if it is determined that there is no risk. KOMIPO came up with the system from its determination that most of the industrial accidents that occurred recently were related to its cooperating companies. The 'Presentation Session of Excellent Risk Assessment Practices' was also held to prevent industrial accidents through advanced prediction and diagnosis of risk factors involved in work processes. Eight teams from respective business site divisions took part in the session, engaging in a fierce competition to present the best practices.
